  • My love is your love

Just so happened that the Gospel and homily this week focused on the coming of our Lord on Judgment day, and while on my way to mass I heard this song.

In a sense I think we’ve hit world war 3 already. It’s the war we face within ourselves; seen in our faith, our governments, in corruption everywhere. We’re now trying to save our planet with these “5 cents per plastic bag” initiatives or constantly coming up with ways to incorporate the word sustainable into everyday life - sustainable cars, more sustainable electronics, etc.

Maybe the new face of war that we’re seeing is a fight for humanity, not a war over the ownership of a piece of land or for the rights of any certain people, but a battle to save and be saved, to do our part to spread Christ’s love to the billions.

To sustain or be sustainable means to maintain or keep something in existence. This song says that we should not fear, for in death we see that on earth we are not meant to stay. Therefore we should not worry or be scared for the coming of Jesus, this judgment day, but rather be aware, be conscious, be ready.

Live a life that is sustainable, one that keeps our faith nourished and one that can be spread and maintained through evangelization, and one that can be kept in existence no matter what battles we face in this ‘war’. He’s already claimed victory in our hearts, so we need only to respond and act accordingly.

My Love is Your Love - Whitney Houston

    If tomorrow is judgement day
And I’m standin on the front line
And the Lord ask me what I did with my life
I will say I spent it with you

If I wake up in world war 3
    I see destruction and poverty

And I feel like I want to go home
It’s okay if you coming with me

Cause your love is my love
and my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us

If I lose my fame and fortune
And I’m homeless on the street
And I’m sleepin in Grand Central Station
It’s okay if you’re sleepin with me

As the years they pass us by
We stay young through each others eyes
And no matter how old we get
It’s okay as long as I got you babe

If I should die this very day
Don’t cry, cause on earth we wasn’t meant to stay
And no matter what people day
I’ll be waiting for you after judgment day

  • Word Vomit

One of the reasons I try to attend mass so often is to fill that void in my heart. The one that tells me that I don't need to go to mass. The one that speaks to me on a daily basis saying I can live life for myself and myself alone. The one that says God will be there no matter what so what's the point?

I'm not "holy" because I go to mass. Nor am I "so religious" and "so spiritual" because I go.

In true reality it's quite the opposite. I go to mass BECAUSE I lack in spiritual nourishment, because I yearn for more, because I am such a big sinner.

On another note: The mind and the heart are two incredibly profound mysteries to me. For a long time, my heart and mind have always been in conflict. It's like a see-saw. Or more like two negative charges, both running in separate directions. When will they converge? Who knows, but that will be the day to rejoice for sure with no doubt or hesitation. The timing of when the heart and mind intersect is a beautiful thing.
    Praise God.

  • Woman: God's Masterpiece

Woman: God's Masterpiece: Understanding and Living the Feminine Genius
    Christopher West

Beginning in Genesis it is shown that man has failed miserably in upholding woman's dignity
All women to some extent have been affected by the sins of men; abused, discarded

"The hour is coming, in fact has already come, when the vocation of women is being acknowledged in its fullest, the hour in which women acquire in the world an influence and a power hitherto never achieved" - Second Vatican Counsel

"The great process of women's liberation has been difficult and a complicated one, and at times it has not been without its share of mistakes, but it has been a substantially positive one even if it is still unfinished, the journey of an authentic women's liberation must go on" - PJPII
This is a task given to women, especially in a time when there is a built-in prejudice against women, when men dominate over women.

2 Competing Feminologies; two visions of what it is to be a woman:
    1) The Church is the main oppressor of women in the world
    2) The Church is the main defender and protector of women's dignity in the world

What is the Catholic vision of women?
Masterpiece; the greatest work of art made or done by a person or a group
The master artist at work here is the Trinity
The masterpiece of the Trinity, the most beautiful work of creation, the most perfect work of creation is woman.
The last act of creation is the creation of human being as male and female. The fact that man is created last is a sign of humanity being the crown of all created works of God. In the second creation story, the last creature God creates is woman. We discover that we are all the crown of creation, but women in a particular sense is that crown. Women embody the perfection of the human creature. Mary is the highest creature in heaven; she has been given the perfection of the divine life, which is why we call her Mary full of grace. Mary is the masterpiece.
Almost all cultures universally describe nature with feminine terms; mother nature, mother earth for example. Femininity speaks of the dignity of the created order. Even biology speaks of this priority of the feminine in the order; the X chromosome is the standard, the Y is a deviation of the natural pattern.

The battle satan rages is a battle against woman. If we understand why the devil attacks women, we can understand our great dignity and our great purpose in God's plan of creation.
God's eternal plan for the whole human race is to marry us. To be human is to be a bride, to conceive divine and eternal life within us. The woman who conceived divine life within her was Mary.

However, we cannot understand woman in isolation from man.
"We need to return to God's original plan for the human couple, and proclaim it forcefully so that women in particular who have suffered more from the failure of God's original plan to be lived,  so women in particular can finally give full expression to their womanhood and their dignity" - PJPII

Marriage is the primordial sacrament; a sacrament right from the beginning, the fundamental sacrament. The union of man and woman in one flesh is the fundamental way that God reveals His eternal plan to humanity. Women have a particular desire for union and intimacy because we desire for a union with God, and this is related to our desire for intimacy and union with a man through the sacrament of marriage.

The man, in making himself a gift to the woman, also receives the gift of the woman. And the woman, in receiving the gift of the man, also makes a gift of herself to the man. The giving of the gift, and the receiving of the gift, interpenetrate. In this way, we form a true life-giving communion that images the very life-giving communion with the trinity.

God is maculine in relationship to humanity and humanity is feminine in relationship to God; this is why we refer to the church as a "she".

Why does the serpant approach woman, Eve, in the garden? Not because we are the weaker sex, but in a sense because we are the 'stronger' sex. "Woman represents the archetype of the whole human race. She represents the humanity that belongs to all human beings; both man and woman" -PJPII. Satan attacks woman because he wants to deny the gift of the bridegroom.

    To be continued...

  • Counterpart Re-post

Great quote from an unknown author

"Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets so love the people who treat you right, forget about the ones who don't, and believe that everything happens for a reason.
If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised that it would be worth it.
Love and Happiness come hand in hand- one without the other just doesn't make sense.
You'll never make it through life trying to make everyone happy.
Sometimes you just have to do what's in your heart and not worry about the rest of the world, because they never worried about you.
The outcome of pain is growth and you can only grow from what you learn.
In life, God does not give you the people you want he gives you the people you need; to teach you, to hurt you, to love you, to make you laugh. To make you exactly the person you should be."
