Just so happened that the Gospel and homily this week focused on the coming of our Lord on Judgment day, and while on my way to mass I heard this song.
In a sense I think we’ve hit world war 3 already. It’s the war we face within ourselves; seen in our faith, our governments, in corruption everywhere. We’re now trying to save our planet with these “5 cents per plastic bag” initiatives or constantly coming up with ways to incorporate the word sustainable into everyday life - sustainable cars, more sustainable electronics, etc.
Maybe the new face of war that we’re seeing is a fight for humanity, not a war over the ownership of a piece of land or for the rights of any certain people, but a battle to save and be saved, to do our part to spread Christ’s love to the billions.
To sustain or be sustainable means to maintain or keep something in existence. This song says that we should not fear, for in death we see that on earth we are not meant to stay. Therefore we should not worry or be scared for the coming of Jesus, this judgment day, but rather be aware, be conscious, be ready.
Live a life that is sustainable, one that keeps our faith nourished and one that can be spread and maintained through evangelization, and one that can be kept in existence no matter what battles we face in this ‘war’. He’s already claimed victory in our hearts, so we need only to respond and act accordingly.
My Love is Your Love - Whitney Houston
If tomorrow is judgement day
And I’m standin on the front line
And the Lord ask me what I did with my life
I will say I spent it with you
If I wake up in world war 3
I see destruction and poverty
And I feel like I want to go home
It’s okay if you coming with me
Cause your love is my love
and my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us
If I lose my fame and fortune
And I’m homeless on the street
And I’m sleepin in Grand Central Station
It’s okay if you’re sleepin with me
As the years they pass us by
We stay young through each others eyes
And no matter how old we get
It’s okay as long as I got you babe
If I should die this very day
Don’t cry, cause on earth we wasn’t meant to stay
And no matter what people day
I’ll be waiting for you after judgment day
